Quality Equipment Distributors (QED), based in Glasgow, is a leading UK designer and supplier of modular bar, coffee shop and food service equipment. The company has recently completed the design and installation of a modular coffee shop and additional kitchen equipment at a company’s new European headquarters in Glasgow.   Modular display system at a reasonable price An important part of the company’s plans for the new premises was the design and installation of a kitchen, coffee shop and snack bar to cater for management, staff and visitors to the building. As the manager explains: ‘We wanted a modular system that was as good as a custom-built solution at a reasonable price, and were fortunate to receive the ideal proposal from QED. An important consideration from us was the use of a rustic, natural wood finish for the fascia of the counters, which would be in harmony with our organic principles. ‘Robert Campbell and his team worked very closely with us to come up with a design specification and CAD drawing that was true to our vision, and the end result is both stylish and practical.’   The equipment that QED supplied is from their exclusive Continental Coffee Shop System. It includes a drop-in patisserie counter with front and rear sliding doors for serve-over and self-service operation, together with matching bar modules. The units are clad in distressed, reclaimed wood with granite and wooden worktops.   Eau de Vie multitap drinking water system Behind the counters, QED has installed a compact kitchen facility that includes stainless steel sinks, worktops, a dishwasher and coffee machine. A special feature of the kitchen area is an Eau de Vie multitap drinking water system, which dispenses filtered, chilled still or sparkling water, together with hot water for hot drinks, all from one easy-to-operate tap.   As the company’s manager emphasises:  ‘The kitchen and coffee shop is not simply a place for people to eat and drink. It also serves as a useful space for ad hoc and relaxed meetings, where ideas can be discussed and developed in less formal surroundings than in the office environment.  To this end, we are very satisfied with the facility that QED has helped us to create.’ (Above) The coffee shop bar system is finished in distressed, reclaimed wood including a drop-in patisserie counter accessible from front and back.   (Left) The Eau de Vie multitap system dispenses still, sparkling and hot filtered water    (Below) A Classeq DUO 750 sited at the rear of the counter.   Find out more about multitap - www.eaudevie.com/product/multitap/   See more from Quality Equipment Distributors Ltd - www.qualityequipment.co.uk

The Best Of British - Introducing The CST 100 & 130

20 September 2015 Posted by Admin

With British Food Fortnight taking place 19th September – 4th October, the subject of provenance will become a much discussed topic in the Foodservice sector.  Supporting home-based producers can provide an important boost to the UK economy and it’s good to see the best of British food being celebrated…but what about other areas within the sector?  Are these being forgotten?   Globally, the manufacturing industry contributes £6.7 trillion to the economy[1] and even though our country is relatively small in comparison to heavyweights such as China, India and the US, the UK is currently the 11th largest manufacturing nation in the world[2] - quite an achievement.  So what kind of products can we supply that others can’t?  Well, with a workforce of 2.6 million people[3] we make everything from Triumph motorcycles to Silver Spoon Sugar and even warewashers...   Here at Classeq we have been developing quality glass and dishwashers for over four decades, and with all core equipment tested and produced in the heart of the UK in Staffordshire, we’re proud to have our roots firmly planted in British soil to help provide thousands of jobs for the UK market.   Our most recent product, the CST 130, has been innovatively designed with the foodservice sector in mind.  It can wash an impressive 130 racks per hour (that’s up to 2,340 dirty plates) while keeping energy and water waste to a minimum thanks to features such as its automatic standby mode and rinse economiser.  Every aspect has been created with operators’ budgets and environmental impact in mind so managers can be rest assured they are using the best available product on the market. But that’s just one example of the machines we manufacture.  From small compact units to larger rack conveyors, we make sure every warewasher is of the highest quality so that the very best of British manufacturing and foodservice equipment is available right on your doorstep.  And to us, that’s something worth celebrating too…   DOWNLOAD THE CST BROCHURE    [1] http://www.themanufacturer.com/uk-manufacturing-statistics/ [2] ibid [3] ibid

Classeq's Eau de Vie ‘taps into’ new markets with product innovation

Classeq's leading filtered water system manufacturer Eau de Vie brings to market its newest innovation – the latest in sustainable water delivery for the catering industry, the multitap™.    A technological breakthrough in energy efficient appliance design, the drinking water system provides instant fresh, filtered boiling and chilled water – both still and sparkling - in a single stylish dispense tap.  The internal set-up isolates the two water lines, ensuring that the cold water comes out chilled, while the hot is drawn at a temperature set by the customer to meet a particular need.   Incorporating a state-of-the-art heat exchange system, unique to a filtered water product, the new tap captures heat generated during the chilling cycle which would typically be wasted, recovering it to preheat the boiling water and saving substantial amounts of energy.     In addition, the single point dispense unit has an inbuilt seven day time switch ensuring the system is running only when it is needed, eliminating unnecessary out-of-hours power consumption.  An energy saving stand-by mode can be selected to activate after a pre-set time of non-use, whereby the advanced water tap will power down to conserve power.   The latest product from fast growing filtered water brand Eau de Vie represents a new generation of filtered water systems that offer a truly sustainable solution to out of home water consumption.   The energy-saving technology provides a simple, genuinely green water delivery solution for caterers and is being hailed as the ‘must have’ piece of equipment both back and front of house.   Its unique energy saving credentials has the potential to substantial reduce essential overheads as energy prices remain high across the industry.  Its ease of use and convenience also means caterers can save on vital time needed for preparation before and during service, for example blanching vegetables without the need to pre-heat the water.    Speaking about the launch David Smithson, CEO of Eau de Vie said the new water appliance was a ‘step change’ in the large scale delivery of water for the catering industry, adding, “The new multitap™ utilises the very latest innovations in heat transference as well as energy savings techniques to be a truly green product.  Unlike anything else on the market, it will genuinely save operators money through decrease energy consumption as well as allowing to drive new revenue streams by offering a ‘third way’ between expensive, undesirable single use bottled water and chlorinated tap water "We are extremely proud of our newest innovation which will add a new dimension to the filtered water market, offering a genuine green alternative to current systems.”   Bottled water is increasingly losing favour amongst consumers, who are becoming more aware of the environmental impact of its production.  It takes 7 litres of water and 162g of oil to produce a single one litre disposable bottle of water.  In the process 120g of CO2 is released.  The UK consumes about 3 billion litres of bottled water annually[1] making the environmental damage caused by bottled water production just in Britain potentially huge.   For further information on the multitap™ and its benefits download the multitap™ brochure    [1] Zenith International, UK bottled water report, March 2013 download the multitap Brochure here.pdf (4.08 mb)

Warewashing for Universities - An interview with TUCO

26 June 2015 Posted by Admin

What are the key design features of modern day warewashing equipment? University caterers can face hundreds of customers every day, often in a short period between lectures or at lunchtimes.  Caterers working in this busy environment need to be able to rely on their warewasher to prevent hold-ups and loss of custom; key to this is quick but powerful cycles which can speed up turnaround times of each wash. Our ALTO 100CD, the ultra-compact rack conveyor dishwasher, capable of washing up to 100 racks per hour is ideal for a large catering establishment.  It makes for a super-efficient dishwasher with its self-draining wash pump and radiused corners.  It also comes with a corner hot air drying zone, which speeds up the overall washing time and ensures optimum hygiene. How much training should staff have on using warewashing equipment? Caterers shouldn’t have to be an expert on warewashing to be able to use their machine properly – they have more important things to be getting on with.  Most modern machines are equipped with a range of features for ease of use, regardless of the experience within a team.  For example, all Classeq machines come equipped with full width doors and removable internal racks to make cleaning as easy as possible.  We also pride ourselves on our service and offer ongoing maintenance and support for all customers, 365 days a year. That said, a machine still needs some care to maximise its lifespan. To ensure the health and longevity of a washer, caterers should be cleaning the machine regularly and thoroughly. What one tip would you offer caterers looking to buy new warewashing equipment? There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all warewasher, and caterers should choose a machine that suits the space and footfall of their individual unit.  Classeq have a range of warewashers to fit kitchens big and small.  Smaller units, such as an onsite café for example, can make up for reduced preparation areas with compact frontloading dishwasher which can whizz through 20 racks an hour at busier periods, but won’t take up unnecessary space.   A large canteen feeding hundreds students and staff throughout the day on the other hand, is likely to have kitchen with more space and so can afford the highly efficient Classeq free-standing washer, capable of washing up to 130 racks per hour to keep up with volume demand.

Pushing Forward With Ice-O-Matic As Summer Rolls In

29 June 2013 Posted by Admin

Classeq has released a guide to the different types of ice that are available from its range of ice machines in a bid to increase the use of different types of ice throughout the UK.  As the distributor of Ice-O-Matic ice machines in the UK, Classeq is well placed to provide advice to maximise the benefits of these machines to users across the UK.   Classeq are encouraging bars, hotels and restaurants to be prepared to offer a diverse range of ice products with drinks, bearing in mind that the diversity of drinks menus todays means that often there is a need for more than one type of ice.  Gone are the days when 'one size fits all.'   As Nick Burridge, Director of Sales at Classeq explains, "while ice machines can produce ice in a variety of shapes and sizes, not all ice is suitable for the same application.  For example, ice served in a cocktail isn't suitable for blended drinks."   Essentially, there are five types of ice and depending on the size of the establishment and the overall drinks mix offered to customers will determine which machines will provide the best return on any investment made.   Half Cube Ice - This small, easy-to-handle ice is perfect for blended drinks because it breaks down easily and creates a smoother finish   Full Cube Ice - A long-lasting and larger cube that looks good in drinks and cocktails.  It is also ideal for large volume applications like bagging and bulk cooling.   Gourmet Cube Ice - These ice cubes are cylindrical shaped, crystal clear cubes that enhance any drink and are especially suited to upmarket venues such as fine dining restaurants, receptions and convention centres.   Pearl Ice - Soft and chewable, pearl ice dispenses smoothly and displaces liquid better than cubes.  It is great for smoothies and other soft drinks.   Flake Ice - The best ice for maintaining hydration and extending shelf life and the appearance of seafood and for use in cocktails.   Ice is a versatile product and as such care needs to be taken to make sure that you are using the best ice for the specific purpose.  Classeq, through it's range of Ice-O-Matic machines are well placed to help you in that decision making process.   Get in touch today to find out more.
